On Fire Team Inspire
We sent your child's yellow shirt home on Wednesday. Your child should wear the shirt every Wednesday. He/She will also wear it for the winter sing.
We learned a lot about Pilgrims, the Mayflower and turkeys this week. Ask your child about his/her new learning. The first graders made a mini book about their learning. Some of the kids made a turkey to hang in the hall. We heard a story about a turkey missing his feathers and did a turkey dance.
Next week is a very short week. On Tuesday, we will have a Thanksgiving feast. Thank you to those who volunteered to bring in something. We will have plenty to eat and drink at our feast.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving break. Enjoy your family, the food and the shopping.

TGIF
It was a long week with no specials and too much rain. We ended the week with a movie because we were so proud of how well our class handled this tough week.
We wore our yellow shirts on Wednesday. We will wear them again next Wednesday and then your child will bring them home. Please have your child wear his or her shirt every Wednesday this year. It is really cool to see us all in yellow. We got many compliments from other teachers and students.
We had a lot of fun with government this week and are in the process of sharing our learning through videos. We will let you know where and when you can see them. Thank you for taking time to do inquiry homework with your child. Learning begins at home. We appreciate your support.
Our school has been offered an opportunity to try a computer program for free. It is called Reading Horizons. The link is posted on this blog and will also be sent home on Monday. It will take the place of Compass Odyssey. We have been impressed with it so far.
We will have a Thanksgiving Feast on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Additional information will be sent home on Monday.

First Grade went to the Survive Alive House today. We were shouting out "Fire!" We were pretending there was a fire in a pretend house. Some of us had to get off of the roof. It wasn't really a high roof. It was a low pretend roof. We had to look for pretend fire and go out a safe way. Aryana said, "It was fun learning at Survive Alive."

Our week by Mrs. G and Mrs. K
We are participating in school wide inquiry unit on government. Our essential questions (most important) are "What are some of the rules/laws in our lives (ie: homes, classrooms, city, state, country) and what would life be like without them?" and "What are the important people in our world (ie: homes, schools, city, state, country)?" We started with our homes and classrooms and moved on to talking about our city and state. We had a great discussion about our Mayor and our Governor. We also touched on voting and looked at the upcoming candidates.
We will be sending home an inquiry homework assignment due by the end of the week.
Continue working on those self-help skills such as tying shoes, address and phone number. We will assess those things soon.
