We went to Swans Pumpkin Farm. First we fed the goats, then we took a picture by a big pumpkin. After that we went through a maze. The maze was really tricky. A lot of us had a hard time getting through. The fourth thing we did was dance with a man who taught us a Thanksgiving Dance. The fifth thing we did was going on a hayride. Then we watched a puppet show. They taught us all about pumpkins. Then we got to pick our pumpkin and a gord. Brooklyn said, "It was a blast!"

This Week at Team Inspire

Next week will be a short but busy week. We are going to the pumpkin farm on Wednesday. Please watch the weather and dress your child for an entire day outside. We will be eating a picnic lunch in our classrooms when we return so please send a cold lunch. Parent/teacher conferences will be held that evening.

Your child completed the first set of goals and is starting to work on new math, reading and writing goals. We will talk with you more about the goals during your conference.

To help your child become more independent, we will be charting who in our class can zip, tie and  tell us their address. First graders need to know their address for the Survive Alive field trip.

If you read this update on our blog, please add a comment or send us a note. We want to see how many parents find blogging an easy way to keep connected with their child's class.

News from the coaches (Mrs. G and Mrs. K)

We just completed a science inquiry unit on nocturnal animals. We learned about some really interesting animals.  Talk to your child about nocturnal animals.

We ordered the t-shirts and are in the process of putting names on them. They look really great and I think the kids will love them. We will wear them for the first time during a PBIS assembly and then on one additional day before sending them home.  They are yours to keep and hopefully remember to wear on Team Spirit day.

Conferences are just around the corner. We sent home a conference reminder. Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to make the time that we assigned for you.  Some of the first grade parents will be recieving phone calls in place of a conference. If you did not receive a conference reminder but would like a face to face conference, let us know. We can meet with you after school on a different day.

We are working together on nocturnal animal projects.

We survived the day without Mrs. Gengler. Mrs. Kozlosky thought it would be very hard. Mrs. Johnson was great! She was a great substitute. The only hard part was going to Specials. Mrs. Johnson helped us at Math. She is a nice teacher. When we finished math we got to go to Centers. Kacey said, "It was a fun day."

We took a picture by the fire truck.  We learned that you need to touch the door to see if it is hot.  We saw firemen.  We learned to not touch things that are hot like the stove and that we can touch things that are cold like flowers.  We pretended that a sheet was smoke and got down low and crawled under it. Jasmine said, "We had fun".

Teacher Notes

We have been talking about signs of fall this week and creating leaf books. We collaborated to make colorful leaf collages. We are also investigating nocturnal animals on our i-pads and in books. Our essential question that we hope to answer is "What are nocturnal animals and how do they effect our backyard?" www.enchantedlearning.com, www.buzzle.com and www.naturenet.com have information about nocturnal animals if you would like to explore this topic with your child and add it to his/her homework sheet.

Conferences will be held on October 24th. You will receive a conference time on Monday. Please let us know as soon as possible if the day/time is inconvenient. Because we only have one night each quarter this year, we are giving priority to the kindergarten students. Next quarter we will give priority to the first graders. Third quarter conferences will be in a open house format.  If you do not receive a conference time from us, we will be contacting you by phone to update you on your child's progress.

Your child was able to pick out and take home library books today. Please read them together and send them back to school on Monday. He/she will not be able to check out new books next week without returning both books.
We read for the record.  We read with a 5th grader.  We read about a lady bug girl.  It was fun to read with a big kid.  Mrs. Gengler said, "Boy are my kids good listeners".
